Мета дослідження полягає у спробі відтворити місце «Записок НТШ» в інтелектуальній біографії Б. Барвінського кінця ХІХ – початку ХХ ст. Методологія дослідження спирається на застосування принципів (об’єктивності, історизму, холізму) та методів (узагальнення, аналіз і синтез, порівняння, генетичний, психологічний та типологічний) історіографічного дослідження. Наукова новизна статті полягає у дослідженні малознаної проблеми співпраці Б. Барвінського із «Записками НТШ» на початку ХХ ст. У підсумку відзначено, що здійснена реконструкція дає змогу атестувати «Записки НТШ» важливою для Барвінського-історика творчою лабораторією. При цьому у вічі впадає поліфункціональність впливу часопису на інтелектуальну еволюцію вченого. Насамперед йдеться про удосконалення ним на сторінках видання навиків науково-дослідницької праці. Важливо, що це відбувалося у постійному професійному діалозі з іншими співробітниками НТШ, які на етапі обговорення праць колеги на засіданнях історично-філософічної секції допомагали йому віднайти оптимальні шляхи розв’язання поставленої наукової проблеми. Водночас часопис сприяв формуванню критичної складової наукового світогляду Б. Барвінського. Цьому сприяла підготовка ним рецензій на новинки українознавства. Замовляючи учневі бібліографічні огляди, редактор «Записок НТШ» тримав у полі постійної уваги процес їхньої підготовки і ділився з ним власним багатим досвідом критичного аналізу здобутків колег. Зрештою, часопис став авторитетним майданчиком всебічного фахового аналізу творчості самого Б. Барвінського. В опублікованих у «Записках НТШ» рецензіях молодий учений отримав доброзичливу, але водночас критичну рефлексію стосовно переваг і недоліків більшості своїх тогочасних праць. У підсумку, це допомогло Б. Барвінському якісно та швидко пройти шлях професійного становлення, стати самобутнім представником західноукраїнської історіографічної культури першої половини ХХ ст.
The purpose of this study is to recreate the place of «Notes of SSS» in the intellectual biography of B. Barvinsky at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries. The research methodology is based on the application of principles (objectivity, historicism, holism) and methods (generalization, analysis and synthesis, comparison, genetic, psychological and typological) of historiographic research. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the study of the little-known problem of B. Barvinskyi's collaboration with «Notes of SSS» at the beginning of the 20th century. The article concludes that the reconstruction allowed to certify «Notes of SSS» as an important creative laboratory for Barvinsky the historian. At the same time, the polyfunctionality of the magazine's influence on the intellectual evolution of the scientist is striking. The historian tangibly improved his research skills on the pages of the publication. It is important that this happened in a constant professional dialogue with other employees of the SSS, who at the stage of discussing the works of a colleague at meetings of the historical and philosophical section helped him to find optimal ways to solve the scientific problem. Along with this, the magazine contributed to the formation of a critical component of B. Barvinskyi's scientific outlook. This was facilitated by his preparation of reviews on the novelties of Ukrainian studies. When ordering student bibliographic reviews, the editor of «Notes of SSS» kept the process of their preparation in the field of constant attention and shared with him his own rich experience of critical analysis of the achievements of his colleagues. In the end, the magazine became an authoritative platform for a comprehensive professional analysis of the work of B. Barvinsky himself. In the reviews published in the Notes of SSS, the young scientist received a friendly, but at the same time critical reflection on the advantages and disadvantages of most of his contemporary works. As a result, this enabled B. Barvinskyi to go through the path of professional development in a qualitative and fast manner, becoming an original representative of the Western Ukrainian historiographical culture of the first half of the 20th century.
